What's Your Lockdown Look?

Lockdown Lacks Motivation

I know I know we're all wondering when's' lockdown finally over, RIGHT! Don't worry you're not the only one. I went into the store earlier and I was surprised by the lack of creativity in some people's dress sense, I thought I was in casual clothing, but I felt overdressed compared to some, which just shows the huge effect lockdown has had on some people. I now feel as if there is a big lack of motivation to look good, because of Lockdown due to there being nowhere to go. This has caused some to become somewhat bland in their approach to fashion, and not enduring their own personal style that suits them since the lockdown has everyone tied up. (Hope you got that one, "Suit", "Tie".... Ahh forget it). But all jokes aside, I have personally seen a change to people’s characteristics including my own and have noticed that people’s preferences differ to what they were in the past.

Once Lockdown is over, I'll be fascinated to see how people will dress themselves, whether it be they have become more creative and free with their dress code or can't put together a simple but stylish outfit, Which for Stichfix's case love to see because they love to help people become better versions of themselves and that can start from just their outfits alone. Which I agree as I believe dressing up is very psychological because you base what you wear based on how you are feeling. Everyone wants to look good wherever they go and when you feel you look good you feel confident and it makes you ready to take on the day. I've noticed people don't realise the significance clothes have on peoples mentality, this link here will bring you to a site that explains in further depth the impact clothing has on peoples thought process: https://brainfodder.org/psychology-clothes-enclothed-cognition/

Out With The Old In With The New

With Lockdown hopefully coming to an end there will be companies ready to release more creative clothing ideas with the hope that there will be a high increase demand for new clothes now people will have more motivation to actually want to buy and wear nice clothing to go out in, and that means there will be an increase demand for help! when trying to put together an outfit when you’re planning on going out, which Stitchfix will gladly help as making people look good and feel comfortable in what they wear, is one of Stichfix’s main aims. Stitchfix can really set the standards and change the fashion game as a whole! Just through doing the basic things well but more so to the fact that they shape fashion around You and what You want and what You like. Making You feel special because clothing is rarely ever catered to an individual but more towards the majority, so when you wear it, it may look nice but it hasn’t got that same personal value that Stitchfix aims to provide.

With the hope of Lockdown ending and the potential of people’s buying habits going back up, we must consider the people lockdown has affected the worst and try our best to give back even if it is something small, because something small to you may mean a big thing to someone else. ‘One mans trash is another man’s treasure’ – Yotam Ottolenghi. Whilst you’re purchasing new clothing items think about your old items that you don’t wear anymore or aren’t that valuable to you and give some to charity or donate them to a homeless shelter so the less fortunate can have fresher clothing and hopefully feel more comfort in what they wear. Here is a link to a homeless shelter that relies simply on donations so any contributions would mean the world to them, because your donation could make a difference and help others especially in times that are hard for many. https://sfts.org.uk/

Wonder What The Future Holds

When looking into the future you have to ask yourself what am I going to wear? and for what occasion? because you want to make sure you look right for the occasion but feel comfortable at the same time, but recently there hasn’t been any occasion to look good for. Whereas in the past looking good at all times was essential not only just for an occasion because you were always judged on what you looked like as you were able to tell one’s social status just from what they wore. Fashion was huge in the past especially for those with high status as it didn’t matter how painful or uncomfortable their clothing we’re as long as it looked nice and was expensive, they would wear it, it was so bad that some would even pass out just because of how tight their clothing was. Makes me believe Beyonce wasn’t lying when she sung ‘Pretty Hurts’. It just comes to show how far fashion has come from then to now because now fashion has shifted to being more comfortable but at the same time fashionable as looking good means to feel comfortable in what you wear. It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds in the fashion industry as new trends come around so easily due to social media and the internet, even within lockdown people have had enough time to create new trends main one through TikTok and people trying on different outfits doing an outfit haul all through a 60-minute video.

Clothing Is Culture

A big thing people fail to notice is that fashion has almost become a culture, as through what you wear you can create a community between you and people that share similar values in terms of clothing. What you wear best describes you and the majority of the time you’re not the only one who has those same likes and interests. Fashion can be behavioral as well because depending on what you wear it can determine how you behave, for example if I wore a suit I would behave in a more sophisticated manner compared to if I wore a tracksuit which I would be behave very much relaxed and calm because it isn’t so formal. Fashion is becoming a culture as we are able to tell a person’s background through what they wear almost as if we we’re in school wearing a school uniform, but you could argue that culture is given to us as it is something you just have to wear, whilst on the other hand with Stitchfix you are finding, if not creating your own culture based on your interests and lifestyle because Stitchfix base your outfits based on what you like and believe in, making it so unique and personal to you. At which you may wear an outfit Stitchfix has planned out for you and get compliments from others you come across and tell them that it was through the help of Stitchfix explaining what they do and how they decide on outfit based on what you like and your lifestyle. Stitchfix Is also very convenient especially if you don’t earn a lot of money because Stichfix’s pricing is very much reasonable and they offer different prices, but the best thing is that it is not based on a subscription, so money doesn’t come out randomly every month because we all hate seeing that.

Haven’t you noticed that people are starting to bring back old trends and styles but with a new stylish twist like in the 70s Woman used to wear trousers that would flair at the bottom and then it become out of fashion until as of recent I’ve been seeing them come back into fashion and people starting to wear them more often. This can be said for the Huaraches which came out before I was born but then they came back which I didn’t even realise at the  time because I was telling my dad these new trainers have come out asking if he could buy me a pair, for him to tell me that Huaraches are old and that he used to wear them before I born, it felt like an insult because nobody wants to dress like their old man. It proved that fashion can always go and come back, and new things will always come to light, that’s what makes Stitchfix so dependable as they will look for trends whilst still ensuring it’s relevant to peoples interests and lifestyle, so people won’t look like they’re out of fashion.

Rational

This blog is targeted toward middle-aged people and young adults, who feel as if their clothing or dress sense is slowly becoming outdated and want to see if Stitchfix is the right place to turn to for help, to help shape your creative thoughts of clothing into reality. Blogs are mainly read and written by young adults who are intrigued by what people have to say about certain situations and companies but in their own way. My motivation for design elements was to keep the design simple but effective because I previously read blogs and saw they didn’t really add a lot of details but we’re predominately about what was being said not necessary what is being shown although images do help in the understanding of what is being said. My motivation for copy was through the inspiration of reading blogs by people that write them regularly as that was the best way to get a feel of how to write a blog. For SEO Optimisation I included hyperlinks to websites that were within interests of what I was speaking about in my blog, within my paragraphs. This helps SEO Optimisation as when I searched for websites that relates to what I was writing I chose websites that were one of the top sites after searching. The specific objective of my blog was to speak able how lockdown has affected people’s creativity especially in the fashion industry because there is a big lack of motivation to dress nice so the blog was just explaining this so people can relate and hopefully be motivated to dress up nice after lockdown has ended. My main Creation strategy was ‘Before & After’ and ‘Comparison’ because I wanted to demonstrate that before lockdown everyone wanted to look good wherever they we’re going but now in the present time in lockdown nobody really cares how they feel about looking good, therefore showing the comparison and future makes people think about how they look now and what they will want to look like in the future. The blog also had to be relevant to the present time and real world so it made sense for whoever reads it and so they can see the difference and feel what it is like in real life.
